UMMC now holds five patents associated with elastin-like polypeptides, a versatile family of synthetic molecules that could change how diseases are treated. The efforts of multiple UMMC faculty members have resulted in a portfolio of ELP-related intellectual property that is one of the largest in the United States.

Lacking concussion system, Mississippi athletes in contact sports at risk

Mississippi has no system that keeps all kids equally protected, especially one that makes a health care professional on the sidelines a given. A UMMC researcher and her team are developing a statewide contact sport concussion prevention system – and a better culture of safety.
